Some members of the Illawarra Kung Fu Academy recently travelled up to Sydney to take part in an open day at the HQ School in Chinatown. Teachers and students from branches all over NSW gathered for Lion Dance, Kung Fu demonstrations and socialising. It was a great day and hopefully the first of many, giving students from everywhere the chance to meet and greet other members of our extended Kung Fu family.

18th January
2011

The Qi Gong workshop scheduled for this Saturday will only go ahead if people book in and leave a deposit. If you’re thinking about attending this, and I strongly encourage you to do so, get in touch now. Here are the details:

On Saturday January 22nd, 2011 from 9.30am to 12.30pm, Sifu Alan Baxter will be running a Qi Gong workshop at the Kiama Mind Body Spirit Centre, at 42 Terralong Street, Kiama.

The course will teach the basics of Lohan Qi Gong (a form of Tai Chi) and will be beneficial for beginners and the more experienced alike. If you’ve never experienced Lohan Qi Gong or anything like it, this seminar will be an excellent introduction to many aspects of the art. If you’re already a student, this seminar will be invaluable in improving your skills and understanding. If you’re a Kung Fu student and have yet to try out the Qi Gong, this is a perfect opportunity for you too.

The seminar will cover:

- Basic Qi Gong warm-up exercises;

- Silk Reeling exercise;

- A variety of Yin and Yang walks, including some not usually practiced in class;

- Practice of the full 18 Lohan form, as taught in regular classes;

- A deeper exploration of meridian theory as it applies to the 18 Lohan form.

Given the three hour timeframe, there’s ample opportunity for people to ask questions and greatly improve their understanding of this powerful and beneficial art. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions in order to improve their knowledge.

Numbers are limited, but we need a minimum of 6 people to go ahead. The cost will be $40 per person, payable directly to the Centre. Please make sure you book in at the Centre and leave a deposit to ensure your place in the seminar.

You can reach the Centre on (02) 4232 4200, or drop in at 42 Terralong Street, Kiama, NSW 2533.

They have a website and a Facebook page.

Also, please feel free to give me a call on 0414 445 579 with any queries about the seminar. If you’re an existing Qi Gong or Kung Fu student, you are encouraged to come along and expand your knowledge. If you’re new to Tai Chi systems, this is a great way to get a solid feel for what it’s all about.
