2020 is coming to a close, and what a year it's been! Firstly, we're having a little get together to mark the end of the year, but in keeping with COVID-safe rules, it'll be a bit low key. We decided to have an open air morning tea at 10am on Saturday December 12th at Black Beach Reserve. All kung fu adults and kids, and all qi gong and tai chi students and their families are welcome. Grab a coffee or a juice, maybe a snack, and come to hang out for a little while. We'll take a group photo at some point to mark the occasion. As for classes, please see below the end and restart dates for all classes: ADULT KUNG FU Last class for 2020 will be Wednesday December 16th - this will also be the grading class for those ready to grade! First class back in 2021 will be Monday January 18th. KIDS KUNG FU Last class for 2020 will be Monday December 14th - this will also be the grading class for those ready to grade! First class back in 2021 will be Monday February 1st. KIAMA QI GONG/TAI CHI Last class for 2020 will be Thursday December 17th. First class back in 2021 will be Monday January 18th. JAMBEROO QI GONG/TAI CHI Last class for 2020 will be Friday December 18th. First class back in 2021 will be Friday February 5th. Thanks again to everyone for a great, if difficult, year. It's a pleasure and a privilege for Halinka and I to teach you all. Let's make the most of the last few classes of this year, and then I hope everyone has a great and safe Xmas and New Year. Any queries send me a text or give me a call.
Firstly, I'm REALLY sorry about the late notice on this one. At the end last year - in pre-Covid times - we booked a family holiday with cousins and aunts and uncles and grandparents, to Queensland. When everything got turned upside down, we assumed we weren't going to be able to go. Now they've opened the borders, so we can go. More importantly, as we CAN go it means we HAVE to go, or we'll lose all the flights and accommodation and so on that's been booked. Of course, we'll enjoy a holiday, but it does mean a lot of last minute re-organising. It also means that we'll have to close classes for the week that we're away, which is the week after next. So please note, there will be no classes between Monday November 16th and Friday November 20th. The last class will be Friday November 13th and then we're all back to normal on Monday November 23rd. Again, huge apologies for the late notice. Any queries send me a text or give me a call.
See below for all the finish and restart dates for classes for terms 3 and 4. The two week holiday is coming around and the middle Monday (October 5th) is a Public Holiday. So please check these dates carefully: Adult Kung Fu Classes Last class for term 3 – Wednesday 23rd September First class back for term 4 – Wednesday 7th October Kids Kung Fu Classes Last class for term 3 – Monday 21st September (grading for those who are ready) First class back for term 4 – Monday 12th October Qi Gong/Tai Chi Classes Last class for term 3 – Friday 25th September First class back for term 3 – Thursday 8th October NB: There will be no Friday class on October 2nd or 9th. This class will resume on Friday October 16th. Any queries or problems, call me, send me a text or email.
We're continuing with our classes following the various social distancing and sanitising guidelines we've been following since the start of July. As long as NSW numbers don't spike, we'll try to continue on like that. But we are making a couple of small time changes to classes. Monday morning Qi Gong will be from 9.30 to 10.30 am until further notice. The 9.00 to 9.30 am session won't be happening. Thursday and Friday Qi Gong will remain as they are. Kids Kung Fu class will remain as normal. Adults Kung Fu classes on Monday and Wednesday will run from 6.00 to 7.30 pm until further notice. As we're not able to do partner or padwork at the moment, it makes sense to reduce the overall class duration for the time being and concentrate on weapons and forms. Any questions, as ever, give us a call or email.
First of all, I'm so sorry about all the disruptions to classes recently. Obviously, a lot of it is entirely out of our control. It's infuriating that as soon as classes started back, I got sick and had to cancel again, but the safety of everyone is our primary concern. In reference to that, I went to have a COVID-19 test (a singularly unpleasant experience!) and the test came back NEGATIVE. So the good news is that I have a simple cold. I'm already feeling a bit better. We will be taking a two week break over the school holidays, due to some family commitments, but the start of term 3 will hopefully see everything back on an even keel. Here are all the relevant class dates: ALL CLASSES will proceed as normal next week (Monday June 29th until Friday July 3rd) and then: Adult Kung Fu Classes Last class for Term 2 – Wednesday 1st July First class back in Term 3 – Monday 20th July Kids Kung Fu Classes Last class for Term 2 – Monday 29th June First class back in Term 3 – Monday 20th July Qi Gong/Tai Chi Classes Last class for Term 2 – Friday 3rd July First class back in Term 3 – Monday 20th July
The NSW government has announced that we can train in class again as from June 13th, but with some restrictions still in place. Specifically: The social distancing of 4 square metres per person and remaining 1.5m apart still applies. Most of our classes usually have 10 or less students, so the limit shouldn't be a problem. Our venues also allow more than 10 people given the available space, so distancing is also covered. For classes with more than 10 registered students, I will be contacting people over the next week or two to discuss. If you don't hear from me, come along to class! Here are some other practices we'll follow in class regardless of numbers to keep everyone safe: 1. If you are sick in any way, please don't come to class. 2. If you become sick and you've previously been to class, please let us know asap. 3. PARENTS please don't stay during the kids class, in order to reduce overall numbers in the hall. You're welcome to remain outside and socialise there, or go to the park, etc. Then you can return just before 5 to collect. 4. KUNG FU - there will still be no padwork or partner drills for the immediate future. We'll concentrate on forms, single drills, weapons, etc. There is plenty to do without needing to partner up. 5. All students will be temperature checked on arriving at class. If you show a temperature over 37.5 we will have to ask you to leave until next time. 6. Hand sanitiser and alcohol wipes will be provided on site. The measures above have been discussed and agreed upon by the Choy Lee Fut management group for all our schools and classes. Also, please note that as per my last email, fees from now on (once all existing payments have been used) will be: Annual insurance: $75 per person. Children’s Kung Fu: 10 class pass: $120 Single class rate: $15 Adults’ Kung Fu: 10 class pass: $175 10 class pass Concession: $150 Single class rate: $20 Qi Gong/Tai Chi: 10 class pass: $150 Single class rate: $20 All adult passes will be valid for 10...
Online classes are going along okay. Certainly no substitute for a regular class, but better than nothing. Hopefully we'll start to see a slight easing of restrictions over the next few weeks and we can go back to training in person before too long. Meanwhile, we're going to take a week off from the online classes next week. So all normal classes this week as we've been doing, with the last class being on Friday May 1st. Then we'll have one week off and get back to the same online class timetable and format from Monday 11th May. Obviously, things are changing week to week with this virus, so if anything comes along that affects that schedule, I'll email again. Any questions, reply here or give me a call or text.
This is just a quick update to keep you informed. Not too much to report at this stage, but we're looking into delivering classes online, using a video streaming service. I've been figuring out the options and will try to run a test class early next week. Once I get on top of the requirements, we'll try to run our classes on their normal days and times, though probably for a reduced duration. I'm sorry we haven't moved sooner on this, but with the requirement to suddenly learn home schooling as well as dealing with the fallout for our writing and art careers, things have been quite hectic! I hope to have more news for you all soon. Thanks for your patience.
This post is to let you know about all the finish and restart dates for classes between now and the start of term 2. I have to apologise in advance as there is a little bit of disruption to normal class regularity. We always avoid any cancellations wherever possible, but sometimes it's unavoidable.
